Growing up, we had a swimming pool. I knew how to swim, I just didn’t enjoy it as most do. Sometimes, because we lived in the country, and our family roots were country, we’d find ourselves ankle deep in a creek. The familiar sound of stream water flowing was as normal as the sound of a train whipping down the tracks. I lived in the “small town” industrial place, where we had one movie theater, for miles, one shopping mall, one BMV in the county, and lots of undeveloped outdoors.
I’m thankful my girls are living a more diverse life, where mixed races is the normal. I’m also thankful that there’s still quiet areas tucked in the busyness that children can visit.
