Bringing Up Her Past

Photo taken by Alex Powell on Pexels

Up with the silence of the escalator,

Blurred surroundings on both sides.

She is in her own world, so deep in

Thought of Brett and Nancy.

How they’d never know her,

How they never tried.

Their choice, and their emotional neglect

Shaped her issues with trust and equality,

Inclusion and respect.

Years ago, when her anger was

Thrown up in messy scribbles in diaries,

And all she needed to say went unheard,

Her voice laid in those pages.

They, the sacred gold

Of her private world, were her treasure.

She reached the top of her trip, and

Stepped off.
